Students from SHS & GILA recently played a vital role in supporting mushers during the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race as it passed through the Galena checkpoint.

Working in temperatures as low as -30°F, students helped prepare gear and organize supplies for teams traveling along the trail. Their efforts ensured mushers could move efficiently through the checkpoint, contributing to the smooth operation of the race.

The hands-on experience gave students a unique opportunity to participate in one of Alaska’s most iconic traditions while developing teamwork and resilience in extreme conditions.

Baasee' to Ms. Kramer and the students in her outdoor recreation class for helping keep The Last Great Race running smoothly!

SHS students really brought the cheer with their outfits for Holiday Spirit Week.

A Star-Spangled Night

Thank you to Louden Tribe for partnering with GCSD to recognize our veterans!

Galena is home to many who have served our country in the military. This year's Veterans Day celebration at SHS was a wonderful night honoring those who have served.

For the first time ever, SHS proudly sent a team of students to the Junior Native Youth Olympics (JNYO) in Anchorage.

These six students from Galena spent months preparing to compete against 600 competitors from 55 teams from all over Alaska.

None of this would have been possible without the tireless efforts of coaches Miranda Martinez and Shadow Gregory.
